Fall

  • Use your agenda book to monitor assignments and extracurricular activities. 
  • Take PSAT in October
  • Save your best work in academic courses for your portfolio. 
  •  Get involved with extracurricular activities
  •  Attend college fairs
  •  Read and improve vocabulary
  •  Complete the Question of the Day on collegeboard.com. Use hints to help figure out questions. 
  •  Practice questions on collegeboard.com by using the skill inventory. 

 Winter

  • Participate in Choices Interest Inventory workshop
  • Discuss college and career plans with your counselor 
  • Develop a list of possible college majors that you find interesting 
  • Talk with college students who are home for winter break.
  • After receiving your PSAT scores in December, meet with your counselor to explore methods of improving future PSAT/SAT test scores.

  • Use Skill Inventory on collegeboard.com to understand reading material.  
  • Look for National Collegiate Athletic-Association (NCAA) requirements if you are interested in playing sports in college. 
  • Visit Student Services or check online for summer programs for high school students
  • Volunteer in organizations to identify interest and skills.  
  • Start Developing Leadership Skills.

 Spring

  • Research career options and consider academic courses to help achieve your goals. 
  • Consider taking a summer course or participating in college opportunities for high school students
  • Search for summer internships, jobs or volunteer positions.

Summer

  • Begin a summer reading. Check with teachers for recommended reading list in subject areas.
  • Research colleges, consider educational environment that appeals to you, (urban or rural, private or public, large, midsize or small population). 
  • Begin visiting college campuses. Start with colleges nearby 
  • Take PSAT/SAT prep class.
