Upcoming College Visits at River Hill Students must sign up in Student Services to attend a scheduled College Visit. The sign-up book is located on the Student Services Secretary’s desk. A pass will be sent for the student. The teacher has the right to not let a student miss a class. Updated information will be added to the files available for students who miss a college visit. You can find out who is scheduled by:
· Listening to the morning announcements. They are announced on the two days prior to the visits.
· Checking the list posted on the bulletin board right outside Student Services
· Checking the sign-up book
· Checking the Student Services website.

Scholarships Check the website or pick up a copy of the current scholarship listings. Some due dates are early this year. Don’t miss out on these opportunities.

Service Learning Assisting others and volunteering are valued qualities; however, to meet the State requirement for Service Learning Credit a request for approval of your plan must occur prior to doing the service. The forms for approval of any Service Learning Project are located in Student Services. See the secretary or any counselor. It takes at least a week to have your project approved. FYI – washing blackboards for a teacher after school and doing religious service such as serving as an altar boy/girl do not qualify as Service Learning. There are lists in Student Services of pre-approved Service Learning sites, but you are also welcome to submit other projects for approval.

Attention Senior Males: Young men must register for Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday (this includes U.S. Citizens living abroad and non-citizen immigrant males ages 18-25 residing in the U.S.). Selective Service keeps a list of men who might be called on to serve our country in a national emergency. By registering for selective service you open yourself up to receiving financial aid for college, receiving Federal Job training, a Federal Job, and United States Citizenship, if you were not born in the United States. It is a felony not to register that is punishable by up to 5 years in prison and up to $250,000.00 in fines. Go to www.sss.gov to register. You can also register by going to your local post office and completing a registration form.

Scheduling meetings with your child’s counselor: Counselors handle their own appointment schedule. If you would like to meet with your child’s counselor you may email the counselor or call Student Services at 410-313-7400 to set up an appointment. Although counselors may be available on a walk-in basis, it is always best to schedule an appointment ahead of time.

Transcipt Request: Transcript packets may take up to 20 school days to process. We make every effort to meet your deadlines, but 20 school days is the requested notice that we need. The most important thing is that your application arrives by the college’s due date.

Student Assistance Program: River HillHigh School participates in the Student Assistance Program. SAP is a school-based team that offers support to students, parents, and teachers. The SAP provides a systematic approach to early identification, intervention, referral, and follow-up of students whose behavior indicates patterns that may be related to the use of tobacco, alcohol, or other drugs. If you suspect that a student is using tobacco, alcohol, or other drugs you can contact the guidance office and give us the student’s name. You can make an anonymous referral. The guidance office will then investigate the report and contact the student’s parent and make appropriate referrals. Students who are referred through the Student Assistance Program are not subject to disciplinary action at the time of the referral.
